Talk to the shadows
They have something to say
All along the inside line of the soul
Between light and dark the still-life assemble
The past gives birth to a new whole
and from time to time you see colour when you
tremble

Conversation with Strangers

You are all individuals and unique strangers.

I invite you to have conversations with all the various possible resolutions of abstraction that presents themselves in the form of my paintings. I talk to you through mark-making, brush strokes and line drawing. “I decontextualise. Take matter apart and then I put it back together again. I like to look at the spaces in between the visual obvious, and the negative space, where a whole other is revealed is what resonates with me. In every subject, there is more than obviously presented to the eye. Looking past the obvious, close observation and engagement of the subject is my process. The challenge is to see beyond the distraction of the conspicuous and to capture its unique self. The line and form activate into layers of options when it meets light. Some of my subjects are quite obscure, some beautiful, others less so. My goal is to inspire those who see my work to look more carefully at the world around them, to discover obscurity in unusual places. And to start conversations with strangers.
